Clearly from a time before health and safety legislation, William J. Oliver is seen here photographing downtown from roof of Palliser Hotel.

Dating primarily from the 1920s through the 1940s, the photographs of W.J. Oliver chronicled life in and around Calgary. In addition to capturing the streets and people of Calgary, his images recorded the Calgary Stampede, outdoor activities at Vermilion Lakes, Waterton, Banff and Jasper National Parks, and his own family at their Diamond L Ranch.
