Elk Island National Park, located 35km east of Edmonton, and popular with folks here in #yeg, has played an important part in the conservation of the American bison.
The park plays host to the largest and the smallest terrestrial mammals in North America, the wood bison and pygmy shrew. A part of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve, Elk Island National Park is a popular spot to stargaze and admire the wonders of the northern lights. This illustration captures the beauty of nighttime in the park.
