This snowy 1913 scene captures Main Street, now 104 Street, at the heart of the once-independent City of Strathcona. Horse-drawn sleighs glide past storefronts and telegraph poles as the streetcar line carries travellers north toward the Low Level Bridge and across the river to Edmonton. Even in winter, the bustle of business and daily life shows a community growing quickly, confident in its future. Just two years later, Strathcona and Edmonton would amalgamate, forever reshaping the city, but here, the identity and charm of Old Strathcona remain unmistakably its own.
This print preserves a moment of history along a street that continues to shape the neighbourhood’s character more than a century later.
